With the increase of opioid overdoses, the fact that marijuana is now legal in California and the ever increasing numbers of DUIs, employers who have safety sensitive employees covered under the Department of Transportation need certified Substance Abuse Professionals (SAP) more than ever before. The SAP is a person who evaluates employees who have violated the DOT drug and alcohol regulations and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment. Aftercare and follow up testing. In this seminar, you will hear information regarding the requires of the DOT program from a Designated Employer Represented (DER) and the importance of the SAP.
- Exploring the DOT rules and regulations from an Employer’s perspective
- Discussing the responsibilities of a SAP
- Reviewing the training requirements to become a SAP
Jane Snowden Galvin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She has extensive experience in a wide variety of clinical settings, including inpatient acute care, residential treatment, psychiatric locked door ward and outpatient treatment. Jane currently serves as Senior Vice President of Client Services for The Holman Group. She has been employed with The Holman Group for over 31 years. She is widely recognized as an expert trainer in a variety of mental health issues and Substance Abuse presentation to meet the DOT education requirements.
Lourdes Gutierrez is the HR EAP & Wellness Manager for The Gas Company. She is also the Designated Employer Representative (DER) responsible for managing her Company’s Drug and Alcohol Misuse Prevention Program for both regulated safety- sensitive employees and non-regulated employees. Lourdes has been employed by The Gas Company for 28.5 years and has served as the DER for the past 17 years. In her capacity as DER, she manages a wide variety of employee substance abuse-related cases and has implemented internal processes and procedures that have been highly praised as industry “best practices” by DOT regulators and drug and alcohol testing industry organizations.
