Learning Objectives:

Following the presentation participants will be able to:

Define current trends in marijuana use in California following the passage and implementation of Prop 64.

Understand the changes in California law: what is legal, what is not with regard to possession, use and distribution of marijuana. How legalization affects DUI laws and what defines impairment.

Discuss harm-reduction strategies for clients exhibiting dependence and abuse of marijuana.

Bio:

susan bowlingSusan Bowling is a Recovery Advocate, Coach and Consultant who works with clients facing addiction-related charges in the criminal justice system. She provides ongoing case management and coaching to her clients throughout the resolution of their case in court and beyond. She has consulted with various organizations in the development and implementation of addiction services within law enforcement settings including SIOP (Serial Inebriate Outreach Project), a collaboration of the City of Santa Monica, the Santa Monica Police Department and the CLARE Foundation. In 2011, Susan assisted in the development of the Education Based Incarceration program of the Los Angeles Sherriff’s Department and continues to provide addiction-related services inside the Century Regional Detention Facility for incarcerated women.

Susan currently consults with 3 area colleges, providing addiction education and counseling services with a focus on implementing harm-reduction strategies for students who are actively drinking and using.
