January 23, 2015
Presented by Randy Kasper, LCSW BCD
It is important that EAP professionals are familiar with the current literature, trends and practice of diagnoses in practice today. Clients come in perhaps self-diagnosed, with a pre-existing diagnosis or simply confused. While it is out of the scope of practice for an EAP professional to make a formal diagnosis, it will be very helpful to familiarize oneself with the language of the psychological and medical professions currently in use in speaking to both employees as well as community resources. An overview will be given of current diagnostic categories, a brief history of the DSM on whole and some of the controversies around these changes and/or lack of changes. A powerpoint presentation will be provided.
- Learn the change to Single-axis from Multi-axial diagnosis in the DSM 5
- Will be able to recognize the concept of Dimensional Diagnosis and use of the specifiers
- Will be able to apply diagnostic changes to the diagnosis of major diagnostic categories
- Will explore the role of cultural sensitivity in the DSM 5
